Breakfast dishes as known by Westerners in Thailand are limited. Very often, a Thai breakfast consists of the same dishes with rice that are also eaten for lunch or dinner.

The following items are viewed as being specific breakfast dishes but can also be found at any other time of the day:

  • “Joke”: Rice porridge, similar to the congee.
  • “Khao Tom”: Thai style rice soup, usually with pork, chicken, fish or prawns.
  • “Pa Thong Goo”: Thai version of the Chinese deep-fried bread.
